MSP430FR2355: Unable to connect to TI Launchpad using stune.exe

Part Number: MSP430FR2355
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ENERGYTRACE, , MSP-FET

I have an MSP430FR2355 Ti Launchpad evaluation kit. The EnergyTrace feature works as expected within CCS but I'd like to gather power consumption data outside of CCS.

I've stumbled into the command line utility "stune.exe" packaged as part of CCS. But this appears to be poorly documented. One of the few references appear to be in the XDS110 user guide.

I've taken the .ccxml file as generated by CCS and tried variants of the listed commands... stune gives no errors or information and simply seems to exit/crash after issuing the command. Nothing except the echo of the command is stored to the log...

  • Is it possible to use the eZ-fet Debug probe with stune?
  • How do I initiate a connection to the target board?
  • How does the "hosted" option function?

  • Hello,

stune is only supported with XDS110 and not the MSP-FET / eZ-FET probes of MSP430.

I will bring this thread to the attention of the MSP430 experts for suggestions on command-line EnergyTrace options for MSP430.

    Thanks

  • Hello,

I'm not familiar with "stune" but according to Ki, it's only related to the XDS110 which does not support the MSP430 device you are evaluating.

Unfortunately, I'm unaware of anyway to run energy trace outside of CCS and could find no documentation or E2E posts ever discussing doing so.

    Thanks,

    JD

  • That's great. Thank-you both for taking the time to respond to this.

We were looking at experimenting with incorporating some simple power consumption monitoring/reporting into our development pipeline. But it's easy enough to do this more manually.

EnergyTrace is a nice feature. Certainly would be nice to be able to use it outside of CCS for other target boards.
