MSP430F6726: Inquiry Regarding Low-Power MCUs for portable Gas Metering Devices

Part Number: MSP430F6726

Dear Sir/Ma'am,

I am writing on behalf of PRAD, in regards to our ongoing project focused on the portable gas metering devices and personal monitors for the use in industrial and hazardous locations.

We are looking for low-cost, ultra low-power MCUs that could potentially align for gas metering applications, please suggest the list of ultra low power MCU that can be used for such battery powered applications.

Additionally, we are also interested in gathering information about any existing usage of your MCUs in similar gas metering devices or analogous products. Knowing if any of your MCUs are currently employed in such applications would provide valuable insights into their performance and compatibility within this specific domain.

Furthermore, any pertinent details regarding the following aspects would be immensely beneficial:

1.Cost: We would highly appreciate it if we can get an idea on the costs of these MCUs to evaluate their viability for mass production.

2. Performance and Reliability: While cost is a primary consideration, we also place significant importance on performance and reliability as the product will be responsible for the safety of people's life. Any insights into the performance and reliability of these MCUs under operational conditions would be invaluable.Should there be any technical specifications, datasheets, or relevant information that could aid us in comprehending the capabilities of these MCUs, we would be grateful for your assistance in providing these materials.

Thanks & Regards

  • Hi Muhammed,

Can you clarify if these will be gas detection devices and what type of gas will need to be monitored?

    Regards,
    Luke

  • Hi Luke,

Yes, we are working on portable gas detection devices , gas needed to be monitored are (mainly h2s)

    1. H2S
    2. CO2
    3. O2
    4. SO2

    Regards,

  • Hi Muhammed,

There are a couple different avenues you can take depending on the analog front end. If your sensor only requires digital communication interface (SPI, I2C, UART etc.) then you can use a general purpose MCU. Deciding factor here would be number of IOs, Memory, and CPU speed.

If the sensors output an analog wave, you can decide to use a Delta Sigma integrated MCU, like the one you linked or if a 12-bit SAR is enough to satisfy the requirements.

    MCUs with 12-bit SAR ADCs - MSPM0L or MSPM0G.
MCUs with 24-bit Delta Sigma ADCs - MSP430F6726 (different options depending on how many Delta Sigma ADCs you need, this also features an LCD controller)

Each product page has a datasheet so you can see the specifications identified in the datasheet - including test conditions, maximum operating conditions, and recommended operating conditions. Additional reliability for Texas Instruments Products can be found on our Reliability and Quality page.

Let me know if you have further project requirements to help narrow down which MCU would be the best fit!

    Regards,
    Luke
