MSP430F5438A: software BSL entry

Part Number: MSP430F5438A

Hello,

I have a customer using the MSP430F5438A in a housekeeping MCU application where they need to keep the power supplies to the system enabled while a firmware update is occurring.

If they have the internal application jump to the rom BSL does the BSL reset any of the IO state on its own outside of the UART pins?

  • Hi Munan,

You may want to read the old response on this thread.

For MSP430 devices, it looks like a software BSL invoke does not entail a reset, just the RAM is cleared. This could be verified by setting and clearing a few GPIOs, then entering BSL mode via software, and checking to ensure that the pins have maintained their state.
