MSP430FR50431: MSP430FR50431 oscillators

Part Number: MSP430FR50431

Hi !

I am debating what to add to the USSXTIN, USSXTOUT outputs
Should you connect them to an external clock, or connect them to DVSS?

I'm using the msp430fr50431 component, we received a recommendation from you to use the 6043 scheme and I have some conflicting sources or I don't understand them properly.

On the one hand, the pins are used as an oscillator:

And on the other hand, write this note:

  • Hi Ido,

The note about not driving an external clock to USSXTIN pin means you should not input an external square wave. An oscillator is still okay.

BYPASS mode in the clocking system of MSP430 allows for the input of an external square wave signal, by bypassing the oscillator drive circuitry as shown below:

The note in the datasheet indicates you cannot bypass this circuitry on USSXT. The recommendation you received before to use the same setup as on the 6043 EVM is correct.

    Best Regards,
    Brandon Fisher
