MSP430FR6043: NOINIT not working

Part Number: MSP430FR6043

We have a variable we don't want to be initialized when we program the boards. 

We used the #pgrama NOINIT(VarName) in the code and the link command file we have main.obj(.TI.noinit:VarName).

If we program the board and manually set the value, it will retain the value through removal and restoration of power like a persistent variable and as expected. 

However, if we program the board again, the value is wiped out and it is reinitialized to 0 again. 

Any suggestions on what else to look at?
