By using any USB/UART bridge as hardware, and TI open source BSL Scripter on any OS as software.

I am using MSP430 launchpad, so the USB/UART bridge that is present on the launchpad is enough or would I need something like the MSP430 BSL Rocket? Also, it is mentioned that BSL commands are password protected, so how to access the same?

AFAIK, only MSP-FET firmware support BSL, not LP's. However, there is SLAA535 LaunchPad-Based MSP430 UART BSL Interface, where G2 LP target device is used as BSL hardware interface to another MSP430 BSL target.

Wrong BSL password will trigger mass erase (JTAG fuse reset).

Thank you for your reply. From what I understand, BSL can be accessed only after entering the BSL mode during power-on. Could that be done through hardware connections, without having to send software commands?

Device can enter to BSL mode by BSL entry sequence (on TEST/RESET pins) anytime. When device is in BSL mode, software commands (over UART TX/RX) are used for firmware update or some other action. TI BSL Scripter (PC side) is open source. If you want to know how device BSL look like, you can find open source UART BSL examples (for F5xx/6xx flash, not FRAM familly) inside slau319 archive.
