Is a RESET always sufficient? RESET vs. power on reset

Hello,

is there a scenario where a RESET (external reset on the reset pin)  is no sufficient to restart the MSP430 and a power cycle is required?

I.e. is there a difference between a power-on-reset and a reset triggered by the external reset pin?

    Hi,

    in the 5xx User's Guide you find in the chapter "Register Bit Accessibility and Initial Condition" a description of the different control bit default condition descriptions. So there are peripheral control bits that are only resetted in cause of power-up. Therefore I expect that there are scenarios that show different behavior comparing RESET and power-up.

    Correct. There are also situations that a MSP chip may lockup and RESET cannot get it going. For example, certain kinds of brown-out.
