I’ve downloaded msp430-gcc-full-linux-x64-installer-9.3.1.2
If I understand correctly, my debugger is GDB. The makefile points to msp430-elf-gcc for my CC and msp430-elf-gdb for my GDB.

The first time I ran ‘make debug’ I received this message:
     libncursesw.so.5 no such file or directory

I ran ‘whereis libncursesw.so.5’ and I found libncursesw.so.6.2

So I created a link to libncursesw.so.6.2:

       sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libncursesw.so.6.2 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libncursesw.so.5

Then I had to do the same for libtinfo.so.5

Does the silicon version simply refer to the version of the chip?  Is it something that can not be updated?

Yes, I expect so. In particular, based on my simplistic experiment I think the software is distinguishing between an "X" device (pre-release) and an "M" device (the Real Stuff). Check the top line of your package marking, to see if it starts with an "X" or an "M". This can't be changed -- you'll need a different chip.

I don't know why the CCS people would decide to disallow an FR5969 "X" device; I have a number of other "X" devices in my gizmo box which CCS likes just fine.

Is it the target or the MSP-Fet that has the "old silicon?". You could try to debug the X device from the LP that works.

I did update the firmware in the ezFET (or whatever they called it back then) but I got the same message before and after.

[Also, it looks like someone (TI) "oranged" my earlier response, so maybe I'm on the right track.]
