MSP430F5329: Using UART at 1M baud rate

Hello,

I am trying to use UART at 1M baud rate with F5329 which is beyond the highest baud rate in the "Commonly Used Baud Rates" table in the datasheet. My BRCLK is 12MHz. I found it possible with right prescaler and modulator settings and got it running at 1M.

However, I am experiencing time out issues in the communication at not only 1M but also at all the baud rates beyond 460800. My question is, why is the table capped at 460800? Is there any reason or data behind this table? And most importantly, is it possible to use 1M baud rate on F5329? Thank you!

The answer is that it depends on what you want to do. Processing incoming data at 1Mbps is possible but it is really easy to fall behind. Requiring that you count MCLK cycles very carefully.

I made dual UART - USB (CDC) bridge based on MSP430F550x @ 24 MHz MCLK (XT2). Here is example of one way communication, where 2 MSP430x2xx devices @ 16 MHz (factory calibrated DCO) MCLK sending (TX) bytes in parallel @ 4Mbps, and MSP430 F550x receiving (RX) bytes in parallel on both UART's and sending them to PC by USB (CDC).

Thanks. This is great and proves it possible. I will check my work and probably try a higher clock rate.

Thank you for the idea, I will look into that. I have a lot of bandwidth for more data but maybe it's just not fast enough regardless of the packet size.
