MSP430FR2433: MSP low-power microcontroller forum

Part Number: MSP430FR2433
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Tool/software:

Hello everyone,

I am using Code Composer Studio (CCS) version 12.8 with the MSP-FET debugger, and I’m encountering issues when trying to debug both the MSP430FR2433 and MSP432P401R microcontrollers. Every time I attempt to debug, CCS crashes and stops responding until I close and reopen it. I’ve measured the voltage between the VCC_TOOL pin and GND, and it reads 3.3V. The same applies to the VCC_TARGET pin. I’ve also checked both microcontrollers, and neither shows a short circuit.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or could offer some advice on how to fix this?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,
Luis

  • Does the MSP-FET work with the MSP432P401R?

  • Hello Keith , yes the MSP-FET woks good using the MSP4320P401R

  • Hello Luis,

What hardware are you using?  Is this a custom board?

Do you have any other versions of CCS installed to try?

Does it only happen when you have the MSP-FET connected to the target or is it just when you plug in the MSP-FET via the USB port?

    Thanks

    JD

  • Hi JD,

    Thank you for your response.

I’m using the MSP-FET connected to both the MSP430FR2433 and MSP432P401R on development boards from TI (LaunchPad for the MSP432 and a custom PCB for the MSP430FR2433). I don’t have any other versions of CCS installed at the moment, but I could try installing an older version if that might help.

The issue seems to happen only when I connect the MSP-FET to the target microcontroller and start debugging. Simply plugging in the MSP-FET via USB doesn’t cause any issues.

Do you think this could be related to the MSP-FET or CCS configuration? Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks again for your help!

    Best regards,
    Luis

  • Hey Luis,

To clarify, you are not trying to connect the MSP-FET to the FR2433 and the P410R simultaneously, right?

if it only happens when the Target is connected, then I assume the error is between the MSP-FET and the target but I guess CCS failing on some sort of error...   I would focus on the Launchpad first.  Have you tried it's on-board programmer to see if that works for programming and debugging?

    Thanks,

    JD

  • You mentioned both VCC_TARGET and VCC_TOOL. Normally one would connect either one or the other, but not both. [I can't think of a reason connecting both would cause trouble, but I've never tried it.]
