MSP430F5529: +5 USB needed?

For the launchpad?

Usually not if you remove the jumpers to separate the debugger from the rest of the board. But check the schematic.

For the target design. I am using the launchpad now for development but the finished design will not have USB.

But let me ask this:

1) If I include USB, can I program the MSP430 directly from the USB port without the EZ lite chip?

2) Also can I use the two wire programming ports versus full JTAG?

1) Yes you can. You can program the device through USB BSL

2) Yes you can.
