MSP430G2001: Does TI offer a preprogramming service?

Part Number: MSP430G2001

Tool/software:

I am looking at purchasing Reel quantity MSP430G2001 for a production and wondering if there is a preprogramming service where I can upload the firmware and then order.

Microchip does this through their MCHP Direct, so I was wondering if TI did as well.

I see Digikey offer this service so that is a backup option. Mind you it looks cheaper for me to use DK than buy from TI directly. So this might be a self answering question.

This might also serve as an answer to someone else.

Regards.

  • Hello Steve,

Yes, you can choose to buy chips on Digikey. And if you want to buy chip and preprogramming service from TI, you can contact our sales and marketing.

  • Hi Janz, It looks like the Digikey path might not be as smooth (they can't export the device once it has firmware in).
Have you got a direct contact for the Sales and Marketing? Is there a branch/office in Australia?

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hello Steve,

Did your company have the sales who is specially responsible for your company? I have double confirmed that when > 2 million, TI can provide the pre-program service and each chip will add about a few cents in cost.

    Best Regards,

    Janz Bai

  • No, we don't have a dedicated sales rep. We just purchase from the TI online store as required (or Digikey/Mouser as I have indicated).

I am looking at between 2k - 10k pieces (1 reel to 5 reels) at this stage, based on my clients projections.

If this service is only for >2M pieces then it is not going to work. Microchip (I am a mchp design partner) will do any quantity from 1 item, with a sliding fee scale dependent on the quantity, I was expecting the same with TI.

Oh well, can't win them all. I will come up with another solution.

    Thanks again,
    Steve B

  • Hello Steve,

I am so sorry that we can't provide the pre-program service if the amount small because it will incur significant costs. Maybe you can try to contact with other third party, maybe they can help you program firmware first and then send the chips to you.

    Best Regards,

    Janz Bai

  • No worries. Thanks anyway.
