Tried latest CCS Theia Version: 20.0.0.12__1.6.0 (02 Dec 2024): is GCC supported by this VSCode-based IDE? When tried to create new projects, there are no GCC examples...

GCC is indeed supported by CCS 20 in that it is possible to use GCC based projects with it.

Note that the available new project templates are based on the SDK (in this case it would be MSP430Ware. If there are GCC based examples and the SDK package has the correct GCC dependency set up, then GCC based examples would be available. It appears MSP430Ware is configured for the TI MSP430 compiler only.

Thanks! Indeed MSP430Ware has examples only for TI. It's similar in the old CCS12.8 -> Resource explorer, where I can see examples only for TI, but not for GCC:

However in the same old CCS12.8 if I select File -> New CCS Project I can see generic examples for both compilers:

And this seems to be missing from the new CCS Theia...

That is correct. We no longer support the generic templates to build projects from scratch:

We are looking to bring back some of the generic templates but we do not recommend them since it will require a lot of additional work to set up the project and requires fair amount of expertise.
