MSP430FR2111: Device operating in over-recommended temp.

Hi Champ,

I am asking for my customer.

They encountered an issue where the output stops at high temperatures. Preliminary analysis is that MCU might be experiencing thermal shutdown.

The MCU's operating temperature reaches up to 85°C, but the internal temperature of the machine has already exceeded 85°C.

Few questions for clarification,

(1). After the MCU experiences thermal shutdown / over recommended temp., what is its behavior or state? (e.g., does it maintain the state before the shutdown, or do all GPIOs ground?)

(2). If the temperature drops back below 85°C after the thermal shutdown, will the MCU resume normal operation?

(3). From TRM, it tells After a BOR reset, all port pins are high-impedance with Schmitt triggers and their module functions disabled to prevent any cross currents. Is that meaning, all I/O pins will be a kind of “Open-collector” function and disconnected with related circuit ? Could the expert kindly clarify high-impedance here for more details ?

(4). Will the brownout occurred by over recommended operating temp. ? Will over recommended operating temp. do have any effect on the brownout parameter from below table ?

    Since the device is operating out of spec, it is difficult to say what the state will be.

    If the temperature drops back below 85°C after the thermal shutdown, will the MCU resume normal operation?

    The device will most likely need to go through a POR reset before it can resume normal operation.

    This means all GPIO pins are input pins by default.  Inputs are high impedance and except for very small leakage currents, inputs do not draw any current from the device it is connected to.  Any other function related to this pin is dis-connected.
