MSP430F67791: Does the Advanced DLMS features can be added into the 16-bit EVM

Part Number: MSP430F67791
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AES-128

Tool/software:

Hi TI,

Can we add the advanced DLMS functionalities into this EVM?

does 16-bit architecture is enough to include the above functionalities or it is for the basic DLMS?

  • Hi,

There is DLMS COSEM Library which can be used on MSP430F67791. However, for the advanced DLMS function, I think it is hard to achieve on this MCU and the limitation would be the RAM size.

    Best regards,

As you mentioned for 16-bit if the RAM size is increased we can process the advance DLMS features?
is that correct or it is mandatory to go for 32-bit?

  • HI,

Well, I am getting the below information related to the DLMS.

The DLMS protocol stack typically requires 50-100 KB of Flash and 5-10 KB of RAM (depending on protocol feature trimming).

The MSP430F67791 offers 128 KB of Flash + 8 KB of RAM, which is theoretically sufficient for basic DLMS functionality. However, scenarios requiring full security encryption (e.g., AES-128) or multi-protocol integration (e.g., TCP/IP) may necessitate further optimization of memory allocation.

So, I think the limitation would be the RAM size.

  • Okay, Thank you for the reply.

    i have one more question.

Here, the security encryption a software or a hardware component?
i have a clear parameter sizes for the Advanced features can you please tell on the above

  • Hi,

If the security encryption is talking as the AES-128 than it is a hardware component. But it also could refer to other security encryption functions which may require from both software and hardware aspect.
