MSP-GANG: Error 23, 33 occurs while using the MSP430FR5968

Hi experts,

My customer has created a board using MSP430FR5968, but there are cases where it cannot be written from MSP-GANG.
Q1: Could you tell me the cause and solution?
Q2:Are the write specifications different between MS-FET and MSP-GANG?

[Details]

Writing is possible if they use MSP-FET.
With MSP-GANG, the first writing is successful, but Error-23 or Error-33 occurs after multiple tries.
The power is supplied from the debugger at 2.3V.
MSP-GANG uses an external power supply of 9V/1A.
The result does not change even if the cable is changed.
The result does not change GUI and standalone mode.

The GUI setting screen and version information are shown below.

The circuit diagram is shown below.

Note: Again, writing is possible if they use MSP-FET.
They disconnected VCC_TARGET and connected only VCC_TOOL, but the result did not change.
They removed the reset IC, but the result did not change.
The results don't change even if I remove the 2M resistor.

Sorry for late reply.

As you said "the first writing is successful, but Error-23 or Error-33 occurs after multiple tries.", so I think it is more likely a random issue of programming.

Are customer using the splitter and cables in the MSP-GANG production? Please check the advice of 6.1 Question: Why does device init, connect, or programming fail? in

Hi Pengfei,

I confirmed with the customer.

For units where problems have occurred, there will be a high frequency of failure to write after that. However, if they leave it for a while, they will sometimes be able to write.

They used the included ribbon cable, but a standard jumper wire was used beyond the included ribbon cable.
"MSP-GANG → included ribbon cable → 4 signal wires connected to the board."

Also, changing the JTAG/SBW access speed to Slow or Fast does not change the result.

I think the jumper wires are may the cause from "6.2 Question: Can I use single wires for connection between MSP-GANG and target device?"
But I have a question: why are the results different between MSP-FET and MSP-GANG? Is there some difference in the writing method?

Hi,

MSP-FET is for debug and programming, while MSP-GANG is for mass programming.

They are different in hardware and also firmware, for example, MSP-GANG need a higher current for multi devices programming.
