MSP430F5325: Action when the programme counter points to an incorrect address.

Genius 3215 points

Part Number: MSP430F5325

Tool/software:

Hi All,

The microcontroller is currently operating, but the programme is not being executed.

If WDT is disabled and the programme counter points to an invalid address (outside the memory space), what process will the microcontroller perform?
Will it stay at the incorrect address? (e.g. repeating the JMP instruction indefinitely for the incorrect PC value).
Or will it execute the exception instruction and loop infinitely?

And is it possible for WDT to be disable unintentionally?

Best Regards,

Ito

  • Hi Ito,

If WDT be disabled and PC value is abnormal, this will cause MCU enter unpredictable state, maybe will stuck, maybe will trigger some error.

And actually WDT is credible to sure CPU not stuck because this is just some counter with clock input, if the clock fail, will trigger some error, like maybe NMI, otherwise the WDT will active if no feed action.

    Thanks!

    Best Regards

    Johnson
