designing rf data logger

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA376

i want to make rf data logger for my potentiometric sensor. i have got two msp430 launchpad. i am very beginner on this. i want to use op-amps for make mv measurement.

there is rf 2500 as i see first, widely used with msp430. my questions are:

-what is long range (1 km) rf module can i use? (what about zigbee?)

-where i can buy high sensivity op-amp (for differantial amplification)

- which adc ?

and developing steps please :)

  • Hello ism,

Let me try to give you some suggestions on your questions:

    • For a distance of 1 km I would use sub-1GHz solutions. TI brought to market powerful narrow bw, high sensitifity products as well as a PA chip. Depending of the application area there are special telemetric frequencies like Europe 868MHz. On ISM bands like 433MHz and 2400 MHz the max output is too low and noise is too high.
    • A high sensitve op-amp is e.g. OPA376. If you have a low max frequency then you may look also at instrument amplifiers.
    • MSP430 have 10, 12 or 16 A/D converters on board. TI offers ADCs up to high end. It depends on your application.
    • Everything starts with a clear and detailed requirement specification. This allows to deduce a project plan and system concept.

    I hope this helps.

    Guenther
