MSP430F2272-Q1: Guidance Needed for Programming MSP430F2272TRHARQ1 Using LP-XDS110ET and UniFlash

Part Number: MSP430F2272-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP-XDS110ET, UNIFLASH, MSP430F2272

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am working with the MSP430F2272TRHARQ1 for the first time, and I need help understanding how to program it using the LP-XDS110ET debugger. Specifically, I’m looking for guidance on:

  1. The correct connection between the LP-XDS110ET and the MSP430F2272TRHARQ1.

  2. The steps to upload the program using TI UniFlash.

I would really appreciate a step-by-step explanation, including the necessary pin connections and any configuration required.

Thank you!

  • Hi Dharmendra,
What socket board are you using to program this device?

    Hi,
    Thank you for your response.

I’ve attached an image of the LP-XDS110ET, which I’m using as a flasher for my custom-designed PCB featuring the MSP430F2272TRHARQ1. I’ve also included an image of the MSP430F2272TRHARQ1 symbol for your reference.

  • Hi Dharmendra,
What I meant is if you are using an specific coupon board to program the device. If you are, then you should be to connect the JTAG directly to the coupon board and program the device. For UNIFLASH, I recommend looking over our Userguide.

  • Hi Diego,

    Thank you for your response.

However, I believe there may be a misunderstanding. My original question was whether it’s possible to flash the MSP430F2272TRHARQ1 using the XDS110, and if so, how to properly connect it. If it’s not possible, I would appreciate a direct "no" answer.

I’ve already tried this myself, but when using UNIFLASH, it only recognizes the USB-FET. When I select the USB port, I receive the following error: "Error initializing emulator: No USB FET was found."

You mentioned that the XDS110 could flash the MSP430F2272 if used with a specific coupon board. If that’s the case, why am I unable to flash my custom-designed board?

Additionally, when I checked the supported device list for XDS110, I didn’t find any mention of the MSP430F2272. And when I select the MSP430F2272 in UNIFLASH, there are no available options to select the XDS110 for flashing.

Please understand that as a new user, it's important for us to receive accurate and clear information. We’re here to get the right guidance, not just for casual discussions. I’ve also attached a screenshot for your reference to help clarify the issue.

    Looking forward to your response.

  • Hi Dharmendra,
Apologies for this misunderstanding. I meant JTAG. All coupon boards and EVMs we offer will have the JTAG connections that the device need for proper programming. XDS110 is only available for our MSPM0 devices. You can use this EVM's as a reference (not the right package for your device, but should give you an overall guide for your board.)

    Best Regards,

    Diego Abad
