MSP430FR6047: Flashing the device from a custom test board using python and EZfet

Hello,

I want to create a custom programming and test board for flashing the firmware to the MSP430FR6047. I was looking at integrating the hardware for the ezfet lite on the PCB. Is this advisable and are there any libraries to program the device using python over the USB link? I have attached the ezfet schematic I was planning on placing on the board.

Please can you advise if this solution is viable or if there are any alternatives that i should consider.

Hi,

The ezfet lite can be used to program MSP430 MCUs. However, just need to check once you have built the ezfet lite board on your hand, do you have the programming function code for MSP430F5528. As I know this code is not an open source code for customer.

Hi Cash,

I downloaded the ez fet lite release package rev_1_10_20130712 from TI here: MSP430_ezFETLite 1_10_20130712 - TI.com

This looks like it contains everything to get the ezfet up and running? Do you know if there are any libraries that would allow us to flash the msp430 using a python script? We want to include this in an automated test tool we are building.

Okay. That link seems work. Actually I do not think we have libraries for a python script. It is not a common support case for us.

Hi Cash,

Do you know if there are any recommended approaches to creating an onboard programming tool? Maybe the ez fet is not the best solution. Essentially we want to create a PCB that contains hardware to flash the msp430 chip that can be controlled over USB using some software.

Hi,

I do think the ez-FET is a good way for your requirement. For the programming tool, we usually recommend to use mature programming tools like MSP-FET, MSP-GANG. For your case, we actually do not have much experience on a self build programming tool.

Hi Cash,

It looks like the MSP430 flasher programming tool has a command line interface that can be used with ezfet. I think this may work for what I am trying to do.
