MSP430FR6043: CCS not intuitive and not user fiendly

Hi thanks for the question. What version of ccs are you using? You should be able to copy the variable you are wanting to monitor to the watch section and select continuous update. If you have a local variable, this won't show up with a value as shown below with adcResult:

I also recommend setting the breakpoints before you run from the debug panel. You can also change breakpoint properties by right clicking on the breakpoint in the breakpoints section and select properties, like below, ( notice I defined adcResult outside of the main and getting values now) :

is there live Watch feature, without breakpoint could it update the values? 

version i am using is below in the image

1. debugging started 

2. debugger stopped, then you see

3. call stack doesn't show the history

4. program counter also unavailable

You could change the breakpoint option to update view, or one of the other options. Where are you defining your program counter? I don't see where you are attempting to set a breakpoint in the last image you shared. Can you look at your project properties under debug and make sure there isn't anything disabling hardware breakpoints?

2. could i set the break point during debugger is running?

1. Correct, if the variable is accessible outside of a function (i.e. main()) it should be able to be added to the watch list and updated from there. Are you defining this watch variable where it can be accessed during debug?

2. CCS can be a little finicky on where it allows you to set breakpoints while the code is running in debug, but yet this can be done for sure. if you are in the debug window and set the breakpoint before the actual debug session begins, are you reaching it?

1. I have a global variable, it is a counter variable, if i put this in to watch window, will it's value update during debug session?
2. during debug session, on the go could i set breakpoint?

Hi, yes the value should update in the watch window, and you can set a breakpoint while debugging, but like I mentioned above, sometimes CCS will not let you set a breakpoint at a specific place, if you have issues, try disabling compiler optimization and retrying.

1. how to enable the variables to be visible?
2. how to enable the breakpoint to set while debugging?

Can you confirm whether these variables show values if you pause in the middle of debug?

yes it shows if i pause the debugger, but i expect to have shown in the live debugging also

Let me see if we can get some one from the CCS dev team to recommend a solution.
