MSP430F5529: When is TI going to sell a reliable programming device!

Part Number: MSP430F5529
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Tool/software:

I'm getting really fed up with these flaky MSP-FET programmers. We have six and they all are not reliable. My Atmel/Microchip system works flawlessly as well as my Xilinx hardware tools. And even the hobbyist hack Arduino programming is flawless every time! In my case I have a late model Levano laptop running Windows 11. I keep getting errors and finally after trying different USB ports it will work - for a while.

MSP430: Error initializing emulator: The voltage 1176 value is not correct/allowed for the USB FET

This device is built by some one man shop in Florida who does not return calls. How many EEs' does TI employ? Why do you resort to some third party product versus designing and selling your own programmer?

If we can't reliably program your chips, we can't use them!

Edit: More and different errors when swapping USB ports around.

MSP430: File Loader: Verification failed: Target failed to write 0x0FFD2
MSP430: GEL: File: C:\Users\adelle\workspace_v12\Mstr_Clk_X4_disp\Release\Mstr_Clk_X4_disp.out: Load failed.

  • More Info:

    1) I run a three monitor setup. Two 4K screens and the laptop screen which is not used much. All connected through a Levano port extender - official Levano product, not some clone.

    2) I downloaded the FlashPro439 software from Elprotronic and that did not work either. Would not see the programmer.

    3) Tried a third MSPFET430. Still not working.

    4) Back to CCS and this time the programmer (unit #3) worked.

    5) Unplugged the port extender so I can carry the laptop to the production floor. So I now have just the laptop.

    6) MSP430 errors. Tried different USB ports. Still not working

    7) Reconnected the port extender for my full three monitor desktop configuration. I.E back to step #4. SMP430 errors again.

    8) Again tried different USB ports. No good.

    9) Restarted CCS. No good.

    What is going on?

  • I don't see many similar complaints so this would seem to be something unique to your setup.

I don't have any experience with the TI USB FET. The parallel port version, yes. Later I bought the Olimex version for USB. All using Linux/GCC.
