MSP430F5659: USB reference design

Part Number: MSP430F5659

Tool/software:

What is the purpose of the 27 ohm resistors and 10 pF capacitors on the D+/- lines in the reference design?

Starting a USB Design Using MSP430 MCUs (Rev. B)

  • Hi Joaquin,

All USB DP, DM signal pairs require series resistors of approximately 27Ω to ensure proper termination. An optional filter capacitor of about 22 pF (depends on circuit, here is 10nF) is recommended for EMI suppression. This capacitor, if used, must be placed between the hub terminal and the series resistor, as per section 7.1.6 of the USB specification.

While I also do see a lot of design does not use this RC circuit.

    B.R.

    Sal
