MSP430F5310: Problem on ADC or GPIO Output

Part Number: MSP430F5310

Tool/software:

Hi,

The customer has a problem on the MSP430F5310IRGCR in their products which have been already released into the market.

Could you help to solve the issue below ?

In their system, GPIO (Pin 18) outputs High when the input voltage into ADC (Pin 4) exceeds the certain set value as overvoltage.

However, out of 500K units shipped, they found the issue of abnormal output in 10 units.

On some device, the output is stuck to HIGH and never changed even though the input voltage become low.

On other device, the output is not toggled to HIGH or LOW correctly.

-  During the issue occurred, MSP430 didn’t show any error and the other IOs continue to work correctly.

-  The output on GPIO (Pin 18) is recovered from this failure by reset (RST on Pin 64).

-  These issues occurred on the room temp.

-  The 10 units mentioned above are Revision F device.

Do you have any idea to solve this issue ?

Thanks and regards,

Hideaki

  • Hi Hideaki,
I need to ask some question to understand better the problem:

    1. Can you share the schematics for the MSP430 device? If possible, share it to our msp-review list
    2. What is the "overvoltage" value? Is it exceeding our recommended operational values?

    3. What VREF is the MSP430 using?

    4. Are there any other problems with the devices that are seeing the error?

    5. Does the customer plan to further test the bad devices? As in, replicate the error with the devices that show the failure

The recommendation for now will be to restart the device and measure how long it takes for the error to show. Does it happen immediately after an overvoltage occur? Does it happen after X amounts of conversions?

    Best Regards,

    Diego Abad
