MSP430F67791: JTAG programming

Part Number: MSP430F67791
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ENERGYTRACE, MSP-ISO

Tool/software:

Hi all,

I am making a custom board for power measurements using MSP430F67791. I have not used this micro-controller earlier. I am familiar with C2000 microcontroller 320F28027 in CCS environment, using example files available in control suite.

By going through the online documents of TI, its seen that there is energy resource design Energy Measurement Design Center, but it uses HID and MSP ISO for programming. I have MSP430-JTAG-TINY-V2 from Olimex. I want to know if this JTAG can be used to programmed MSP430F67791 microcontroller and whether we can use CCS environment instead of IAR/Energy Measurement Design Centre.

What will be the best approach for using MSP430F67791

Thanks

  • Hi, thanks for the question! Looking at this particular device, looks like it does not support CCS 6.1.3 and later, so I am not sure it would work with our current versions. You may be able to go to the main CCS download page and select an older version in order to be compliant with what the product page says, but JTAG can definitely be used to program the device. You could probably use an MSP430 LP as the interface (LP that has the JTAG socket), then connect the JTAG from the LP to the custom board. I think CCS only has the EnergyTrace (current versions), so you would probably still have to use the EMDC and the MSP-ISO daughtercard based on the overview of the tool.

  • Hi Brian,

Thanks for the reply. So even if i use older version of the CCS. How do i get example files for MSP430F67791 similar to those available for C2000 devices.

  • You should be able to click on the software development tab for the specific device and see the application software/framework there.
