MSP430F5437A: Request for Support – Investigation on Device Failures (Marking: 38ALT4TG4)

Part Number: MSP430F5437A

Hello,

My name is Adriana Baciu, Quality Engineer at Stryker.

We have been using this part number for many years without issues. However, we are now seeing a high failure rate associated with a specific batch, identified by the component marking “38ALT4TG4.”

Boards populated with devices from this date code fail when reading flash after programming. The error occurs during the read-back verification step—sometimes the flash reads back correctly, and other times it does not. Additionally, we often observe multiple resets after programming or during the final product burn-in.

Some affected devices were already returned to TI for investigation (Reference #428943) by our EMS provider, Omega EMS. Omega advised us to open a new case to continue the investigation, as the current results were not conclusive.

We were informed that the issue might be related to a different die revision (Rev H); however, we disagree, as we have used Rev H for a long time and only see failures within this specific date code. Some boards with this marking pass, while others fail.

Please assist with the ongoing investigation and advise on the next steps.

Thank you,
Adriana Baciu
