MSPM0G1507: MDIO emulate

Part Number: MSPM0G1507

Hi experts,

Are there any sample projects or application notes for implementing MDIO (Target side) using SPI or similar interfaces?

Best regards,
O.H

  • Hi O.H,

Could you clarify do you need a MDIO target example(MDC signal is not generated by it) or MDIO controller example (MDC signal is generated)?

From my understanding, MDIO is used for control and configure Ethernet PHY chip, so generally a MDIO controller demo (achieved by SPI or by GPIO) is needed from MCU side.

  • Hi Pengfei Xie,

    Thank you for your reply.

Currently, the customer is considering MSPM0, but they haven't decided which one to choose.  Because there's a possibility of needing to connect it in the future, their purpose is to check the current information.

    Best regards,
    O.H

  • Hi O.H,

Could you please double check whether a MDIO "controller" is needed or a "target" is needed?

Currently we have a MDIO controller demo based on GPIO+delay internally. But do not have target demo currently.

  • Hi Pengfei Xie,

I understood. Please wait a moment while I check.

    Best regards,
    O.H

What our customers needed was "Target". We look forward to adding it to the SDK.

  • Hi O.H,

Sorry that we just have a MDIO "controller" demo, which will generate MDC clock signal to control another PHY chip (target).

Actually I'm also curious about why a target is needed from M0 side? Because a target generally should be a PHY device that is controlled and monitored by the MDIO controller, but as you know, MSPM0 is not a PHY.

  • Hi Pengfei Xie,,

We received the following feedback from the customer.

They are considering make communication module that includes MSPM0, and it may include PHY. The module itself might require an MDIO interface (target) as the user interface, which is why we made this inquiry. It is likely that they won't provide direct access to the PHY chip's registers to the user, but if needed, an MDIO controller might be necessary. We would appreciate it if you could share the demo on the controller side.

    Best regards,
    O.H

  • Hi O.H,

Understood. Could you please contact your local TI support team (FAE or Sales) to start a email loop to me, so I could share the MDIO demo by email. Thanks.

  • Hi Pengfei Xie,

Understood. I'll try to contact them.

    Best regards,
    O.H
