MSP430F6779: HID Device detected, but could not connect to it.

Part Number: MSP430F6779
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSPDS, MSP-ISO, UNIFLASH, MSP-EXP430F5529LP

Hi,

I'm encountering an issue where the HID device is detected by the system, but it fails to connect. The device shows up in the device list, but any attempt to establish communication results in a "could not connect" error.

Following the instructions for the below link:
https://software-dl.ti.com/msp430/msp430_public_sw/mcu/msp430/EnergyMeasurementDesignCenter/1_40_00_03/release/EnergyMeasurementDesignCenter_1_40_00_03/docs/users_guide/html/Energy_Measurement_Technology_Guide_html/markdown/ch_intro.htmlScreenshot from 2025-11-10 17-35-35.png

Could you please suggest possible causes or troubleshooting steps?
1. Is there a firmware configuration or descriptor setting that could cause this in linux?
2. Are there known driver or USB stack issues related to this behavior?
3. Mention the dependencies required for both Windows OS & Linux OS

Any guidance or example code references would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

  • Hi,

Does this happen when you try a different computer?

    -Matthew

  • Hi Matthew,

It is connecting after installing the MSPDS dependency drivers.

    Now the issue is
If we connect EVM430-F6779 is connected to MSP-ISO to LAUNCHPAD and EMDC. (connections are made as mentioned in the Design Center GUI

But we can't see the values in the EMDC results tab.

  • Hi,

Have you tried using a different computer?

I am not sure if this is related to your hardware, or if it's related to your computer.

    -Matthew

  • Yes, I tried connecting to different hardware.
Steps followed to setup the environment in the PC are:
    1. Installed EMDC.
    2. Installed UniFlash.
    3. Installed CCS.
    4. Installed USBDS.
Is this softwares enough or not.

The steps I followed to program the hardware are:
    1. Programmed MSP-EXP430F5529LP with all the jumpers connected for launchpad.
    2. Programmed EVM430-F6779 with all the jumpers connected to program EVM.
    3. Again, Programmed MSP-EXP430F5529LP (I don't know & don't remember why but read somewhere in the forums).

While using the above steps we can see the hardware (Launch & EVM) detections in the UniFlash. after loading the images & connecting the 230 V supply
I can't see the calibration results in the EMDC GUI.

I followed the steps from Design Center GUI, is this the correct way to flash the boards and see the results or did i missed something?
