MSP430-SDK: CCS Version 20.4.1

Part Number: MSP430-SDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG

I regard this IDE as unusable.

In order to do software development, i want to have a system, that works stand alone.

The CCS-Version 20.4.1 forces me to download software every time. To start a new project, i have to download  - whatever. I want to decide by myself, when i want to download anything.

By the way: the standard-layout with green letters on a black background is hardly readable. But this is a minor problem.

This new IDE ist unusable for me. I will stay with the Version 12.8.1, which works fine, as long as nothing better is available.

  • Hey Mathias,

Appreciate the feedback.  Took me a long time before I started to like V20, but I still currently have and use both.

Mine doesn't make me download software, but it does ask if I want updates.  Only time I have to update things is when I get a mismatch between my SDK and Sysconfig from updating them while switching back and forth.

Going to leave thread open incase you have follow up questions or others would like to comment.

    Thanks,

    JD

  • I don't know if this is what he is seeing, but I downloaded and installed the latest yesterday, + the SDK's, but when I got an example from Resource Explorer, I had to download *another* sys.config, compiler and SDK! I assume because the example used an older one, which should not have been necessary.

  • I import Examples directly from the SDK (in c:\ti on my system), so the correct SDK is (implicitly) already installed.

The color schemes I've tried are pretty hard on my (old) eyes, though.

  • Hey Keith,

If you import examples from the Resource Explorer, which is basically a website, then it will always be the latest SDK (regardless if you have that one installed or not.) and it might also only look at the default folder address.  I'm not to sure.

I do it the same way as Bruce.  I just import examples from my C:\TI\MSPM0_SDK_xxx directly so I never get prompted to download the latest SDK from CCS.  Just have to go download/update it myself.

    Thanks,

    JD
