MSP430F5438: General debug support for MSP-Based Microcontrollers.

Part Number: MSP430F5438
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV91670, DRV91690, MSP-FET

Hi TI team,

Today we're contacting you asking for general debug support to understand which debug interface would be more suitable for our specific projects.

We would like to connect and review the most appropiate solutions to perform debug and failure analysis for the different TI MCUs we use in our products. This include Software and the Hardware interface. (DRV91670 & DRV91690 MCUs)

Best regards,

Francisco.

  • Hi Francisco,
I believe that the latest CCSTUDIO should be a good way to start since it contains the most up-to-date support for the devices you mentioned. I haven't heard of performing failure analysis using CCS; however, it could be possible to create test cases to identify them and debug them using CCS's debugger.

  • For "debug interface" can be used SBW. I am not 100% sure about non A 5438 (don't remember right now), but 5438A is with JTAG mailbox system, where JTAG master (over 2 wire SBW) can exchange data with free running (JTAG released) slave (5438). If you are not thinking on source code break point debugging.

  • Hi Francisco,
I would recommend using a MSP-FET to debug, which will require regular JTAG.

    Best Regards,

    Diego Abad
