MSPM0C1104: Clarification on Run current (µA/MHz) definition

Part Number: MSPM0C1104

Hi expert,

I have a question regarding the “Run current (µA/MHz)” specified in the datasheet.

This value appears to be measured under minimal conditions (e.g., peripherals disabled), so I assume the current is mainly related to CPU core activity.

Could you please confirm the following:

  1. Does the µA/MHz Run current mainly represent CPU core dynamic current?
  2. Or does it include other internal blocks (e.g., clock system, memory, regulator) as well?

I would appreciate your clarification to ensure correct understanding.

Best regards,

Ibuki Endo

  • Hi Ibuki,
You can assume that the values in Run mode are the measurements you obtain when running the MSPM0 device without any peripherals active. Think of it as a MSPM0 with a project code with a perpetual while(1) loop with nothing running in the background. If you’re wondering which peripherals might be running in the background while the device operates in Run mode, please refer to the Technical Reference Manual for details. Out of the top of my head, the main system clock and the PMU module are typically active. We also have a Supported Functionality by Operating Mode table you can use as reference for the peripherals that can be active in each mode.

  • Hi expert,

    Thank you for your response.

I have an additional question regarding the clock behavior in Sleep mode.

When entering Sleep mode, is it correct that the device continues operating with the same clock source and frequency configured before entering Sleep mode?

Or, is there any automatic switching to a low-frequency clock (such as ULPCLK) when entering Sleep mode?

I would appreciate it if you could confirm whether my understanding is correct.

    Best regards,

  • Hi expert,

I hope this message finds you well.

I just wanted to kindly follow up on my previous question regarding the clock behavior in Sleep mode.

Whenever you have time, I would appreciate your guidance on this topic.

Thank you in advance for your support.

  • Hi Ibuki,
    Thanks for your patience.

Assuming you move from RUN0 to SLEEP0, then yes, the frequency should remain the same based on the Table 8-1. Supported Functionality by Operating Mode.

If you need it to switch it to a lower frequency, you most likely will need to enter a low power mode like STANDBY so all the clock get reduced to 32KHz (be aware though certain peripheral may not work when in STANDBY. Check the table mentioned before)
