MSPM0G3107-Q1: BSL Security

Part Number: MSPM0G3107-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG

Please let me know if any mechanism is available for protecting the download over BSL.
There is a password for BSL but this is in plain text right? Or is BSL expected only to be used in development stages. Is there any other way to protect/encrypt the software download via BSL.

  • Hello Jopaul,

BY default, the BSL read out function is disable, it means that no one can read out Flash data through BSL function. If you want to enable FLASH read out through BSL function, you need to configure it, through Sysconfig. And as you said, if you don't want to let other people use BSL, password is the best way.

  • Hi
    Thanks for the quick reply.
One more clarification : During the flash process, the raw password also would be transferred over UART, so tapping the uart line would give anyone the password, and he can reprogram the chip. We wanted to know if there is any way to secure this?

  • Hello Jopaul,

If you concern that other people will know your BSL password, the last method you can do is to use secondary BSL. And in secondary BSL, you define a Encryption algorithm for the BSL password. For example, from UART, you transmit 0xFF, but the factual password is calculation based on the 0xFF according to your encryption algorithm. About secondary BSL, please see related module in the TRM.
