Hello everyone, as you can see I am a newbe. I have just started working with the MSP430 and would like to know what is the best IDE use thats free( I'm not cheap,just don't have lots of money), I also picked up the sub-ghz RF units so I can teach myself how they work and how I might be able to use them.

Hi Brian,

have a look at the TI CCSv5 (CodeComposer Studio) which you can download for free at the TI website. It's free for MSP430 with a code limit to 16kBytes. Also the IAR Workbench is available from TI, but there is a 4kBytes code limit which is smaller.

Also you can get completely free and opensource tools also, for example mspgcc.

Thanks Jan,

really helped get me started. I have been seeing this thing called GRACE, it look kinda cool any advice on how I can get this.

Hi Brian,

GRACE is included in CCSv5 already (as MSP430Ware is). You maybe have to install it manually if not chosen in initial install, instrructions are found here:

In short, click on Help -> Install New Software -> All Sites -> MSP430 ware under CodeComposer Studio.
