Audio Capacitive Touch Boosterpack Problems

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430G2553

I've been trying to work with the ACTBP and have had very little luck with the capacitive touch function.  Two issues:

1)  When I push "reset", all of the LEDs but the two on the lower left side of the touchpad area flash.

2)  The sensitivity of the touchpad seems to be extremely variable:  sometimes it works as advertised, sometimes not.  (I have my MSP430/ACTBP sitting on a wooden table.)

I've been able to observe most of the boosterpack functions, play music, observe contents of the SD card on my PC and so on -- but I've not been able to control the selection of these functions using the touchpad -- I just sort of poke at it until something happens.  Scolling, for example, doesn't seem to work at all.

Any ideas/suggestions on how to proceed would be welcomed.  I'm particularly troubled by the two non-working leds, since these seem to suggest that something may be wrong with my hardware.

Thanks -- all help/suggestions appreciated.

  • I thought TI made that kit as a pro-motion for TMS320CC5535. From your experience, it sounds like a con-motion for the MSP430G2553 too.

  • I'm not sure what your comment here means.  I'm just trying to get my boosterpack to work.

For those who may chance upon this:  The problems I described here seem to be related to my trying to use the boosterpack with a Launchpad rev. 1.4 board.  This didn't work as described above.

On a hunch, I tried plugging the MSP430G2552 that came with the boosterpack into a Launchpad rev. 1.5 board -- and this seems to have cured my difficulties.  My reaction:  this boosterpack is pretty cool!  Now I'm going to go see if I can find where in the docs. it tells me that it won't work with rev 1.4 Launchpads -- and will report back later with the results.

  • I'm also using the rev 1.4 lauchpad but I can't get the demo of the audio booster pack to work.

The red leds circle back and forth while D3 is on. Then D3 is off and the display says "Audio Capacitiv""and "Touch Booster Pa""the the whole thing freezes.

I checked al the jumpers, the orientation of the booster pack, MSP430, SD Card etc etc. Nothing works. This is really frustrating.

Will Rev 1.5 solve my problems, from the upddate log I expect nothing from Rev 15 compatred to rev 1.4.

    Please advice.

  • If it's convenient for you to do so, I'd say try a rev. 1.5 board.  It solved most (but not all) of the problems I was having with the rev. 1.4 board and the booster pack.

You might also want to check to see if your rev 1.4 board has the latest version of the firmware installed.  If not, this might explain the problems you're having.   (I don't have a link to the firmware upgrade handy, so you'll have to search for it here -- sorry.)

  • Thanks for your swift reply.

The firware updater v2.0 recognized the board but declaired that no update was necessary.

I don't have Rev 1.5 Launchpads lying around but I noticed that I had two different kind of Rev 1.4 boards.

One has a Rev 1.4 label but the silkscreen says 1.3. The other had 1.4 on the silkscreen.

I was working with the first type. Now thanks to your reply I open up the 'real' rev 1.4 board and this one is working fine !

    Thanks,

    Hessel.
