cc430 LCD watch Dev. Tool

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1101, CC430F6137

Hello,

I have seen on a TradeShow in Nueremburg (Germany) on March the new tool for 430F6xxx with Radio and LCD.

This tool was actually a hand watch. Does somebody know what is going on with it?

I am really waiting for it.

Best regards

g.

  • Grzegorz,

you probably saw a prototype of the upcoming Chronos watch.  It should be available in late November.

Is there a specific project you'd like to work on with it?

  • Hi, thank you for quick answer.

Yes, I have a couple of projects in mind.

Especially I am interested in making my own HartRate watch, which I
    need for logging data.
This I plan to use in my research on HartRate and Headache relatives :)
Is this ready for order now??

Maybe you know some Hart Rate chest belt with open or wide known
    protocol that I can use?

    Thanks again,
    regards
    g.

sure, you can place your order now on the TI eStore and it will ship when it's ready.

we will make it compatible with some heart rate chest belts that are already on the market and the included demo software will allow for data logging of any sensor input so most of the work for your project will already be done for you ;)

  • Hi Adrian,

As I am interested in it as well, is there any preliminary documentation already available and will it use ANT?

    Jan

  • No documentation is available yet.  Give us a couple more weeks.  It won't use ANT of of the box, but i'm sure the hardware will support it if someone is willing it port the stack.

  • Hi adrian,

is the release of the eZ430-Chronos Documentation already planned?

It would be nice to have demo code and schematics for start of development even before the watch is out.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,

    Christoph.

  • Hi,

why is there three different version of the chronos ? It seems, in the available documentation, that the radio tranceiver can support any of the three proposed frequency. Does this mean that the frequency can be set in software, and that the only difference between the versions is the software ?

    Thanks

  • I guess the difference is in the external RF circiut. For example aerial should be different for different freq.

  • sure, that can make a difference for th 433Mhz version, but the european and american version must be quite the same on the hardware part. I wonder if the 868Mhz version can work on 433Mhz band with a decrease in performances

  • Hi jpiat,

I recommend reading the CC1101 and CC430 datasheet respectively. You cant expect any of the different versions to be working together. This would really make no sense.

Anyway, CC1101 covers all bands with different settings and antenna matching (in hw) for sure.

    Regards,

    Christoph.

  • I think it's kind of a cruel joke that I just received a message from TI touting the eZ430-Chronos as a holiday gift idea. Granted they didn't say which holiday, but the little elf kind of suggests Christmas.

I ordered mine in September and the eStore says estimated availability is December 14 (bumped from mid-November). I've heard that new orders won't ship until February. Kind of late for the holidays....

  • Are there boards available similar to the ez430-RF2500T target board that could send information to the Chronos watch? I currently have an application developed for the RF2500T target board which reads from and external sensor and it would be great if I could port it to a board of the same size that could communicate to the Chronos.

there are 3 different versions of the kit.  Two of them (eZ430-Chronos-868 and eZ430-Chronos-915) will ship in December.  The eZ430-Chronos-433 won't ship until February.

the AMB8423 boards from Amber wireless are based on the CC1101 which is compatible with the CC430F6137 in the Chronos.  they come in the same form factor as the eZ430-RF2500T boards too.

Alternatively, you could also try the EM430F6137RF900 or the CC1101EMK868-915. they're in a different size but the RF is compatible.

  • That's fantastic! Thanks a lot for the information.

  • How similar is the chronos electronics board to the target board of the ez430-RF2500?

My prototype application is based on the Sensor Monitor demo application (Access point and End device). I'm likely going to buy the Amber Wireless 915Mhz board that is the same as the RF2500T target board to communicate to the chronos. I'm hoping the application I've already created is portable.

from a hardware perspective, the chronos watch hardware and the eZ430-RF2500T share almost nothing in common.

however, it should be possible to tweak the sensor monitor demo to work with the chronos since it's just displaying data that it receives over a COM port.  the chronos' RF access point acts as RF-to-USB-to-serial-port converter just like the original eZ430-RF2500 Access Point.

you'll have to decide on whether you want to port the Sensor Monitor to talk to the Chronos AP or if you want to buy the Amber 915 MHz board and program it to talk to the Chronos.

Thanks for the clarification, Adrian. I should have checked before passing along hearsay evidence!
