What to use to Power Solenoids? 3A total power draw from 4 solenoids

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN754410, DRV8803

I need to find something will be able to keep 4 12 volt 15-20 ohm solenoids on.

I tried a quad H-driver chip (TI SN754410) that handles 1A and it seemed to overheat.

Thanks for any ideas!

This will be active LOW by the way. I have 4 solenoids with a common 12V and need to give a low signal to the other end of each of the four of them.

EDIT: the driver chip does work. I had LEDs connected in parallel to the solenoids and with a 1.5k resistor in series with the common anode of the leds and 12V supply and they weren't lighting up when I added the load of the solenoids. Need to lower my resistor value. The driver is working. But it is very hot in operation I should add.
