Pulse oximeter design

I went through the application Note: “Pulse Oximeter Design using MSP430FG43x” (slaa274). After reading it a couple of times I had a few doubts:

1.Time multiplexing the led switching circuit- Didn't get how do we decide on/off period for each led?

2.Will calling an interrupt to switch off the LED when ADC conversion is complete not affect the automatic switching on/off of the LED's based on the time multiplexing hardware?

3.How does IIR filter differ from an FIR filter and how do we separately implement them on hardware?

4.In the expression for calculating SPO2,why current is taken inside log instead of volage?

5.Why is it that only after adjusting the intensity of visible light particularly the DAC12_1 signal will become a straight line as the OA0
outputs for the two LEDs are equaled?Can we adjust intensity of infrared LED?
