The environment of MSP430

Hi, gentleman :

     I've studied MSP430 series more than 3 months. I know TI's another C2000 micro-processor can be used in car industry. But if I want to use MSP430 appling to outdoor. Can this processor work at high temperature ? Why cannot MSP430 be used in car industry ?

    you can use (most) MSP430 from -40°C to +85°C which is enough for most outdoor applications. As far as I know has TI no AECQ100 qualification for (most of) their MSP430 products, and because of that the OEMs will not qualify MSP430 for automotive use.

    Stone, there are some MSP430's that are rated up to 105 degrees (not many).

    Generally our automotive microcontrollers have been the TMS470. Now we will have the M3 catalog for automotive. C2000 is always a good solution as well.

    Thanks for your reply. But my main concern is the development tool and code. If these two microcontrollers are the same tool and code, then I can save some money and time to us TMS470.

    what are your ambient temperature (TA) requirements for the MCU and do you need special peripherals (i.e. CAN or LIN) for your application?

    Well please note that TMS470 is NRND, so the best way for us to determine which platform will work best, reply as stated in the previous post with the system requirements for temperature and a recommendation can be made.

    Sorry for my late, I think the TA is more than 105 degree. Because the circuit include a power converter and I need pack it in a case. A power inductor in my circuit is 100 degree while working. This temperature data is measured in my laboratory, so if it works outdoor and sunbathing and casing it, I concern this microprocessor can work or not still.

    well, I think you will need a MCU with at least 125°C (or even 140°C), or reduce the power dissipation of your 'power supply'.
