Debugging

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5418, MSP430F5529

Hi!

I'm having many problems with CCE professional v.3.1 SR1; I'm trying to debug MSP430F5418 (that should be comunicate with a ZigBee Device) , with MSP-FET430UIF, but I  manage to load  firmware on my board just once every hundred: most times it displays that  no USB1Fet is  found, and, sometimes, that the security fuse is blown!!! (that is obviously false!)

I've setting everything properly ( Build Settings and Debug Settings), updating all drivers, controlled Serial Port by Device Manager...the only solution I've found is to repeat "Debug Active Project" , countless times, until CCE  works...help me with any suggestion!

                                                                                                                                                                 Thank U!

P.S. the device has no hardware problems, and I'm using SPY-By wire

  • Hi,

    Did you find any solution!

even I am having the same problem with MSP430F5529 with CCE,

already two devices went wrong with this issue.

    Regards.

  • Hi! I work with CCE4, and the 'cannot find...' message is very usual.

Have you ever got a correct comunication to MSP?

Does the CCE show you any time the message 'upgrade firmware (for FET) is needed?

    Tico.

    Hi,

Yes before this issue occured,I was able to communiacte with the device and debug it.

but now JTAG communication fails for ever.

Below is the error details from the log file.

MSP430: Error initializing emulator: No USB FET was found

!MESSAGE Error: MSP430: Error connecting to the target: No MSP430 device was found on USB FET 1

!MESSAGE Error: MSP430: Error initializing emulator: No USB FET was found

!MESSAGE Error: MSP430: Error connecting to the target: Could not access device - security fuse is blown

    Regards.

  • Hi Brad!

These log is the result of only one try to debug?

    The newest line is bottom?

    step by step:

    1. (assuming you're using MS windows...). Check on control panel >> device manager >> COM&LPT ports, you have something like 'MSP_FET430UIF -VCP (COMxx)'

    2. onCCE... in 'debug environment' go to 'target' menu, then the last item 'debug...', select your project and check the settings on 'Debugger' and 'Target' tabs.

    3. If you're working with TI FET, be sure that works finely.

    4. What kind of cable you're using to JTAG connect? you have weldings on you connectors? lenght? you're VCC'ing (excuse my english), your target through JTAG? some JTAG wirings do not include VCC line...

    Tell me!

  • Hello,

I managed to debug my  MSP430!

After I made sure that the cables for the Spy-bi-Wire ( or Jtag in your case) not be too long, and that resistance on the reset pin (it should be a pull-up esistance) was not too big, to allow the switching for the debugging mode, and that there were any updated drivers, I changed my version of Code Composer Essential, using the Core Edition  ...works perfectly!this version no longer gives any error: the problem is in software PROFESSIONAL version! if you upload a lot of code in C,  a problem ... but if you also have code parts written in assembler,  memory should be enough!

Bye! I hope to be useful...
