IAR Embedded Workbench Licence Problem

I am using IAR Embedded Workbench on my laptop. recently iti has started giving the error
" your time limited licence has expired ".

I tried getting a another licence, but I received the same error. Can somebody please help me in this ?

Is it  possible that i can still run my software on my laptop ?

Ankit

  • Hi Ankit!

In theory, there is a license-free code-limited version of IAR! Check it on their website :)

Or use Code Composer Studio, which is free! :)

    Only the limited version.

But indeed, the time-limited free full version of IAR only runs for  alimited time. And this limited time is per computer, not per installation/license. On each computer, it only runs for a certain time since first installation, then it stops working, even if you re-install it.
The limited version is free, but limited to 16k(?) of generated code per project.

IRC, the free version of CCS is even limited to 8k, but only code generated from the compiler is counted. Assembly code and assembly-based library code isn't counted for the limit.

  • I think it's the other way around. IAR 8KB limit, I have something like unlimited assembly code in mind though. CCS is limited to 16KB, just enough for the G-Series on Launchpad.

To reinstall the software, please check out the following link: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-reinstall-trial-software-after-trial-period-has-expired/

IAR has got nuts, it is so costly, how can a student afford it: only like this with some workaround!

I believe this can be done in very simple other way: using ccleaner, there is a register cleaner in ccleaner

clean it twice thrice... until you find no register keys with IAR... good luck and let me know your successs

PS: please do not forget to delete entire IAR folder available in C:\Program Files\Common Files and restart the system once the registers are cleared

  •  Latest version of IAR is too much unstable in XP, so I am waiting to do definitive migration to CCS for linux, 450$ is not so much for a full version for every TI processor.

CCS Limited version is enough to do complex project too, I am also using Stellaris and C2xxx so I prefer a single IDE for all.

CCS is quite useless to develop any Zstack/ZAP applications.... for quite a lot of applications CCS stands at works or not works dilemma

I have full version of CCS, but doesnt help

  •  Hi Vidya, please can you explain which trouble you incurred with CCS? I am thiking to move to It and no more other IDE are running on Linux.

    Roberto,

I am also using limited IAR version too, I prepared a shared directory I mount as X drive on WINE and on a virtual machine running XP so i can use wine when writing code and run on VBOX when I need to do hardware debugging, CCS for linux is not supporting launchpad hardware nor Olimex nor Elprotronic so I am using IAR for small project.

Hi OCY, yes I was using version 5.40.x now 5.50, but problem came from Launchpad interface, if some serial comm traffic is present then UIF is refused and driver crash, disconnecting serial port or setting a delay on data transmission solve the problem.

Actually I got a serial adapter, with this one every problem has gone away and also I can use serial port on Linux side too.

  • I have installed the CCS on ubuntu 12.04 and and trying to check it's operation using the ez430 board.

But as everyone facing the problem "Error initializing the emulator: No USB FET was found".

Its so disappointing that we are facing such problem on such a robust operating system Linux.

I searched the forum very much about this but seems like no one has found the solution.

I request TI to help us out on this regard so that we continue enjoying with linux.

  •  On October 26 a new "CCS beta 5.3.0 release candidate" was posted for download.

Can be this time the right one for linux too?
