Cannot connect to eZ430-RF2500 dongle

I just received an eZ430-RF2500 Eval kit and I cannot seem to connect to the USB dongle. When I follow the instructions in the "eZ430-RF2500 User's Guide" for downloading the demo firmware to the target, IAR Kickstart tells me:

Fatal error: Failed to initialize.
Check if hardware connected.
Check if drivers are installed.
Try to restart the computer.
Tools using the parallel port are not supported on Windows Vista

Session aborted!

Similarly, when I write a simple program in CCE and try and debug it, CCE gives me this error message:

Error initializing emulator:
Could not initialize device interface

I belive that I have the drivers for the dongle installed properly as my Hardware Manager shows all the same devices (correctly) installed as described in the "MSP-FET430 Flash Emulation Tool" document. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and IAR Kickstart/CCE.

Does anyone have any suggestions to why I can see the dongle in my hardware manager, but still cannot connect?

    Brent,

    1. What version of the software tool are you using? If you are using IAR it is recommended that only the latest version be installed for proper functionality. For CCE, the latest version is here


    2. Are you using a valid OS? (The EZ430 only works with 32-bit Windows Vista and XP)


    3. When your device is plugged in does the LED blink? Code is preloaded onto the EZ430 prior to shipping, and will blink this LED when power is supplied to the MSP430. This indicates that the device is receiving power.


    4. To rule out a driver conflict: Have you tried to install this EZ430 on a second PC (using the installation guide steps on page 18 of the EZ430-RF2500 User’s Guide)? If you were prompted you should see the same as the user's guide, else you have a driver issue.

    5. If you create a brand new project using the steps in the new project document (IAR [1], CCE [2]) and attempt to load a simple TI code example[3], do you see the same issue? This should rule out project setup and limit your issue to drivers and potentially hardware.

    Hi Brandon, thanks for the reply.

    I'm using both the latest versions of IAR and CCE that I downloaded off the TI website.

    I'm running 32-bit XP

    The LED on the daughter board blinks when I plug it in.

    I installed the IAR and CCE on my desktop at work today and I didn't have any problems at all there, so I guess it's just my system at home, which would be nice to get running, but not critical. I just found some updated USB drivers from my motherboard manufacturer and installed those, but that didn't help. If you (or anyone else) have any suggestions that would be great, but again, its not too terribly important.

    This looks like a great little microcontroller, and thanks again for your help.

    HI....I have also got the same problem of the led's not blinking...

    also am not able to download the program into the rf2500 usb tool which i have inserted in my pc...the CCS is giving an error stating that another device connected...what should be done now..

    please reply me .
