Timer A Capture Mode

Hi, I'm fairly new to the MSPs and IAR, and have a basic question.

I wan to use Timer_A in capture mode to measure speed of a rotating wheel using Hall Sensor. I got some codes online, but can't understand what it exactly does, and how to set the control register values. Please help?

One more question... Have a look at this line of the code.

TACTL = TASSEL_2 + MC_2;

Does it mean that the TASSEL bits in TACTL are set to 11?

TASSEL_2 means that the TASSELx bits are set to "10" (2). TASSEL_3 would mean that they are set to "11". The standard definitions used in code examples are taken from the header files (.h). You can see the header files (which are located in IAR or CCE installation directory).
