Code Composer Essentials v3 and eclipse 3.4

After installing CCE3 my copy of eclipse is no longer working correctly. CCE3 uses eclipse v3.2 while the latest eclipse, the one that I use for other projects (like python development), is v3.4. My main question is can I replace eclipse v3.2 with eclipse v3.4 in the CCE3 folder? Or is there some other solution to this problem that I am not aware of? Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    CCE v3 should be able to co-exist with other versions of Eclipse that are installed in different locations. What is not working?

    Replacing the  Eclipse content in CCE v3 with a newer version of Eclipse will not work and this should not be attempted.

    Thanks for the quick reply Andy. When I run eclipse 3.4, it notifies me that there are updates available for eclipse itself as well as many of the plugins that I am using. Once I click on the available updates message, I get messages like this for all of the updates:

    Cannot complete the request.  See the details.

    This only started happening after CCE3 was installed. Previously, I was able to get the updates without any problems. Now, it may be that it is actually trying to update the eclipse portion of CCE3 but it is a bit hard to tell from the actual failure messages.

    Any ideas of why updates to a different version of eclipse would cease to function after installing CCE3?

    We're scratching our heads over what is behind this. A couple of stabs in the dark: what are the paths to your two workspaces, and what are the paths to the two install folders?

    Here are the directories where I've installed each of them:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\CC Essentials v3

    C:\Program Files (x86)\eclipse

    And here are the locations of my workspaces:

    C:\work\workspace  (this is workspace for CCE3)

    C:\work\Python\New GUI (workspace for eclipse 3.4 project)

    It may be worth noting that I am running all of this on a Vista based PC. I've seen other interesting things with Vista but generally eclipse has been pretty well behaved. I see similar problems on my laptop which is running XP so I don't think this is strictly a Vista issue.

    Now, under the workspace for CCE3, I do notice that there is a .metadata directory and under that is a .plugins directory. In that directory is a set of eclipse plugins as one directory for CCE3 (C:\work\workspace\.metadata\.plugins\com.ti.ccstudio.debug.core) which is empty. Hopefully, this gives you a few clues to solving this issue.

    hi dave, this is probably not what you want to hear but i have both the latest CCE v3 installed AND 3.4.1.  they're installed in different directories and use different workspaces.  the only difference that i can think of is that i installed CCE first then downloaded Eclipse.

    Actually, that's good news Adrian. That means that if I uninstall both of them, install CCE3 first and then add eclipse 3.4 then there's a good chance that it should work. I'll give that a try and see what happens. Thanks.

    Of course, there really isn't an "installer" (or uninstaller for that matter) for eclipse but I'll still get rid of both and then see what happens.

    OK, I uninstalled CCE3 and eclipse and then reinstalled them (CCE3 first and then eclipse). It seems to be working although I haven't done thorough testing yet. At the very least, I can now update the various parts of eclipse which was what I was after. So I'll conside this a success at this point. If I run into other problems, I'll post again.
