It's the brain of the FET or JTAG in NON-TI lingo.

TI has very strange "lingo"

"FET" does not Emulate Flash at all, why is it called FET?. And in this case, the MSP430FR57xx does not even have any Flash, what is the Flash Emulation Tool doing there? For that matter, TI also says MSP430FR57xx has "Flash-based BSL", while in reality, the BSL is implemented in ROM.

Dunno where I've read this, probably here. It did actually emulate Flash in the past. The name sticks, call it tradition.
