However, the TLK100 isn't the correct device to get Ethernet connectivity for a MSP430 since none of the MSP430 devices have a built-in Media Access Controller.

Suggest instead a chip such as the Microchip ENC28J60 Stand-Alone Ethernet Controller with SPI Interface. Various board are available with a ENC28J60 and the required passive comments, magnetics and Ethernet jack.

Perhaps Stellaris might be a better choice of microcontroller - available with on-board MAC and PHY!
