Is it possible using MSP430 LaunchPad to program MSP430FR?
Hi,
i don't think it is possible. Refer here:
Not possible even after you modified the the firmware of the LaunchPad "Emulation"?
I cannot cite any authoritative document. Just based on my hunch, I think it is a matter of what is in the Flash of the MSP430F161x chip on the LaunchPad.
There is no need to modify the firmware. To the extend how LaunchPad "works" in general, It "works" for FR5739 too.
Well, I have a LaunchPad. (Rev.1.5, S/N1203022259)
I remove all five J3 jumpers so that the "Emulation" section is disconnected from the rest of the board.
I wired Gnd, Vcc, TEST, and RST from the "Emulation" section of this LaunchPad to another board with a MSP430FR5739 on it.
Now IAR KickStart (v5.20.4) is able to download and debug the FR5739 via that LaunchPad.

That proves launchpad's FET works for FR5739 too..
but how about this,
http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/MSP430_FAQ#Which_MSP430_target_device_does_my_FET_.28Flash_Emulation_Tool.29_support.3F
which says only MSP-FET430PIF, MSP-FET430UIF can be used apart from MSP-EXP430FR5739 ??
I just mean to say what if we just rely on the TI wiki pages and trust the information without any experiments??
Hi,
i added some information in the wiki page:
Basically what OCY says is correct, you might find a FET tool works with another device(s) not listed in the list, but this is not guaranteed and supported by TI in case it shouldn't work. If the device is available in the list, TI will work on the problem in case any problem might occur.
