start up problems with the TI msp430F5328 and TS430RGC64B

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5310, MSP430F5328, MSP430F5326, MSP430WARE

Hi,

I just received a new dev kit but I can not seem to get it to work.

The hardware:

USB programmer, MSPTS430RG64B rev 1.1 and CC5.2(compiler version 4.1.2)

I have tried the blinking led program, but every time I try to start the debugger I get the message:

Error connecting to the target: Unknown device.

I have tried with the MSP430F5310 and this is running fine.

please advice what to do.

You are using the MSP-TS430RGC64B with MSP430F5328.  Here are a few things you can try:

Program both the MSP430F5310 and MSP430F5328 without Code Composer Studio.  Try FET-Pro430 Lite

Test another device.  Do you have more than one MSP430F5328?  You could also try a sample of the MSP430F5326.

What version of MSP430Ware do you have installed?  What are the device markings on the part that does not work?  Any bent or damaged pins?  Orientation is correct I assume.

  • Dear Jason,

We discovered that the chip was defective, another chip was running fine.

    Best regards,

    Jeffrey
