MSP430F5438 + TIWIUB2

HELLO GUYS,

I WAS WONDERING IF I RAN THE MPS430F548 AT 1.8V THE SAME LDO OUTPUT THAT IS USED TO POWER TIWIUB2 , I WOULD THEN NOT NEED THE LEVEL SHIFTERS FOR HCI-UART COMMUNICATION CORRECT ?

REGARDS,

HANSEN

  • When both sides of a digital connection use the same voltage levels, then there is no need for a level shifter.
However, for programming the MSP you'll need at least 2.2V, so be sure that all connected components can bear this.

  • Thanks for the reply , I saw in the datasheet that the minimum voltage for flash programming is 1.8V , so if I'm using a Spy-Bi wire interface can I use level 1.8V shifter between the MSP430 debugger and chip for programming and dbugging purposes?

  • If you use the FET430UIF programmer, you can connect it so that it will auto-adjust its I/O to the target VCC. THis feature depends on connecting VCC to the VCC sense pin of the debugger cable (I don't remember which one, should be 2 or 4, the other one is the VCC out pin).

If using a EZ430 programing interface, you'll indeed need a voltage level shifter. But I doubt it will work with SBW - different signal runtimes on the SBW lines may inhibit communication. Also, the pins are bi-directionally used, so normal level shifters won't work anyway.

  • Programming at 1.8V works with MSP430-UIF.

The Frequency vs Supply Voltage in the datasheet suggests that at 1.8V system frequency can be 8Mhz

Will the Bluetooth stack run ok at 8Mhz ?
