BSLDEMO2 Error 'Synchronization Failed'

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F2112, MSP430G2553, MSP430G2231

Hello,

When I try to download a code to MSP430 using USB-RS232 cable on BSLDEMO2 program, it gives me 'Synchronization Failed!' Error.

Currently I am using USB-RS232 connection but I also tried RS232-RS232 connection and it gives same error.

Does it have to do anything with baud rate? if so, how do I setup/change baud rate.

Please help. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Akash

  • You are not very specific about your circumstances.

Which MSP430 are you talking about?

Which USB-RS232 (or RS232-RS232) cable did you use?

None of the MSP430 can be connected to none of the USB-RS232 (or RS232-RS232) cable directly. What did you do?

The error message you got is not specific either (not your fault, but you work for TI and I do not). It simply means that program did not work. If you do not use any cable and you do not have any MSP430, you probably will get the same error.

  • Here is more information, sorry if I wasnt clear before.

I am using MSP430F2112. And, I used USB to straight serial adapter RS232 cable.

I have a system (projector) which has RS232 connection, so instead of programming MSP430F2112 by using emulator board, I would prefer to use RS232 so I dont have to open the projector every time.

Previously on this thread, someone recommended to use BSLDEMO.exe tool, and thats what gives me 'Synchronization Error' when I try to download a file to MSP430 using RS232. I can use the same file to download via emulator board correctly.

Hopefully this will provide you better input to answer question.

  • Hi Akash, I have a similar problem. I am using the LaunchPad with MSP430G2231 on it and my target has an MSP430G2553 on it.

I have made the connections as suggested in SLAA535A.  I have programmed the BSL on to the MSP430G2231 on the Launchpad.

Then i connected the Target to the launchpad and reconnected the USB. The Red LED and the GREEN LED are on indicating that

the Target is in BSL mode. I have verified that the USB is using COM1 on the PC.

     However, when I run BSLDEMO2 with the command line BSLDEMO2.exe -cCOM1 -m1 +epvrw NewGLDTIV3_2.txt PAUSE

the program starts up and I get the error -  Synchronization failed!

I have tried many other scripts, but, same problem.

Any suggestions from anybody would be welcome since TI is not of much help with such problems.

Now I have started playing around with the BSL program itself.  Difficult to debug because the PC Tx and Rx are shared with MSP-Tx and MSP-Rx. on target.

  • HELLO,

I THINK BSLDEMO2.EXE IS BASED-MSP430. IT IS USED GENERALLY FOR USB CHIP OR RS232. YOUR HARDWARE IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS SOURCE CODE.

YOU SHOULD MODIFY THE WAY WHICH GET SEQUENCE ENTRY BSL.
