MSP430 IAR Kickstart version apparently isn't

I downloaded slac050am.zip with the intent of replacing my previous install from slac050aj.zip.

The old one was the MSP430 kickstart version as advertised, which is sufficient for my needs.

When I install the new one, it demands a license.  It seems either it is not the kickstart version, or there is some undocumented (or poorly documented) step to make it act in the kickstart mode.

Does anyone know what to do here?

  • What happens when you install IAR Embedded Workbench for MSP430, Evaluation license from the IAR website?

AFAIR other IAR "Kickstart" versions do require a licence - but there is no fee for that licence...

  • I think both of you are probably right.  I probably did this with the earlier version, and forgot about it.

I will try it again; I was watching for an option to somehow register it as Kickstart the first time, but I didn't see that option go by.

    Thanks,

    Brian

  • I think something has changed:

    1) Installing from slac050aj installed "IAR Embedded Workbench Kickstart for MSP430 5.50" for which the IAR license manager wasn't installed. This included the Kickstart licence without having to register with IAR.

    2) Installing from slac050am installed "IAR Embedded Workbench for MSP430 5.51" for which the IAR license manager was installed. Had to register with IAR and obtain a (free code size limited) Kiskstart license and then enter license code from IAR.

i.e. it does appear that slac050am has not been "re-packaged" as "IAR Embedded Workbench Kickstart for MSP430". Not sure if that was a deliberate action, or an oversite.
